Wednesday's Wolves News: Trading Rubio makes sense now

There’s no financial hurry, but Ricky Rubio trade rumors make more sense now: While these reports are beginning to develop a “boy who cried wolf” feel to them, they make more sense now. Hear me out. At 14-27, the Timberwolves are likely going to miss the playoffs again. Rubio makes the team more competitive on the court and wouldn’t make sense to move such a player in the midst of a playoff race. -- 1500 ESPN

Glen Taylor giving up to $12 million more for Target Center renovation: Glen Taylor dug a little deeper into his pocket on Tuesday. The Timberwolves and Lynx announced Taylor, who owns the teams, will contribute an additional $9 million to $12 million toward the Target Center renovation project. -- Pioneer Press

Randy Moss to join Kevin Garnett Thursday on TNT’s Area 21: The nostalgia will be heavy for Minnesota sports fans on Thursday night. Wolves go from inspired early to expired late in loss to Spurs: Tuesday at the AT&T Center, against one of the best teams in the league, the Timberwolves played hard, played fast, shared the ball, got to the free-throw line and held the San Antonio Spurs at arm’s length. Ultimately, though, a story that has played out so often during this Wolves season: A 122-114 loss in a game that was decided in a six-minute stretch from the end of the third quarter into the fourth. -- Star Tribune

Glen Taylor paying $9 million more for Target Center renovations: The price tag on the Target Center renovations increased to at least $138 million with the addition of at least $9 million from the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx owner, the professional basketball teams announced Tuesday. The overhaul of Target Center has been underway for months and is expected to be finished sometime this year with the final work being done on concourses, the seating bowl and restrooms. -- Star Tribune

Ricky Rubio trade rumors resurface: Coach Tom Thibodeau had no comment on Adrian Wojnarowski’s Yahoo Sports story Tuesday afternoon that, quoting sources, said the Wolves were “actively shopping” point guard Ricky Rubio in trade proposals. Rubio has played well of late. He entered Tuesday’s game having dished out 10 or more assists in four consecutive games. On Monday, he told the Star Tribune he was playing the best basketball of his career. Talk of Rubio being available in a trade is not new. -- Star Tribune
