An eight-year-old Lebanese refugee living in Germany has been put on sale in North Rhine-Westphalia, German media reported Tuesday.

Deutsche Welle broadcaster said in a report that preliminary information shows that the girl offered herself for sale online, without the prior knowledge of her parents.

The ad had requested $45,448 in exchange for the young girl.

The girl moved with her parents and two siblings, a boy and a girl, to the town of Lohne in the district of Herford two years ago.

The family resides at a refugee center.

Deutsche Welle based its report on Westfalen-Blatt newspaper.

It said that the father, 47, and the mother, 40, denied to investigators prior knowledge of the incident.

Investigators believe that the girl placed the ad without any supervision.

The girl's siblings were moved temporarily to a care center until investigations into the circumstances of the incident were clear.
