BERHAMPUR: Traffic jams in most of the places of Ganjam district as well as Berhampur was a common scene on Tuesday with different parties taking out huge processions on the last day of filing of nominations for panchayat elections.
The contenders of BJP, BJD, Congress, CPM and CPI with their supporters reached the panchayat and sub-collector offices at regular intervals throughout the day.

Polling will be held in five phases and 22,61,372 voters will exercise their franchise in 7,101 booths to elect 503 Sarpanch and 69 ZP members.

A total of 14,205 nominations have been filed for different posts across the district. Those include 10,227 for Ward members, 2,058 for sarpanches, 1,668 for panchayat samiti members and 252 for ZPs.

The nominations of Saarika Sahu, Zilla Parishad member aspirant from Zone 34 in Patrapur block, Sulakhyana Gitanjali, crowned princess of Dharakote, for Samiti member of Dharakote panchayat, and Samir Kumar Rath for sarpanch post in Nimakhandi panchayat have hogged the limelight.
