TPCC plans protest programme against demonetisation

January 18, 2017 12:00 am | Updated 03:44 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) would take up an agitational programme against demonetisation and an action plan would be finalised at the extended executive meeting of the party on Wednesday, TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said here on Tuesday.

Speaking at the TPCC implementation committee meeting held at Gandhi Bhavan, Mr. Reddy said honest people were forced on to the roads with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision of demonetising higher denomination currency notes of Rs.1,000 and Rs.500 but the corrupt and those having black money had not felt even the prick.

Action plan

The Congress party would finalise an action plan on the problems being faced by general public due to demonetisation which, Mr. Reddy said, had ultimately benefited the corrupt and black money holders by taxing the honest people.

There is a need to educate people about the hasty decision of the Prime Minister, he noted.

The Mahila Congress would stage dharnas in all district headquarters on January 19 and a protest would be staged in front of the RBI office here on January 20 as part of the party’s nationwide programme.

Senior leaders of AICC would be invited to the Jan Avedan Sammelan to be held during the last week of the month, the TPCC chief stated.

Implementation committee chairman Ponnala Lakshmaiah, convenor Mallu Ravi, co-convenor D. Shravan, N. Vamshichand Reddy, S.A. Sampath Kumar, Premlal, Nerella Sharada, Anil Kumar Yadav, B. Venkat, Arepalli Mohan and others attended the meeting. At a press conference later, Mr. Lakshmaiah alleged that the Prime Minister had helped the black money holders with his demonetisation by allowing them to convert it into white.

The senior Congress leader sought to know why the Prime Minister had not made the list of 600 black money holders public as he used to talk about it regularly before announcing demonetisation.
