January 18, 2017 12:00 am | Updated 04:00 am IST - CUTTACK:

Arrested industrialist Mahimananda Mishra moved a court here on Tuesday seeking to have food in the jail of his own arrangement. He also made another plea seeking to have proper healthcare facilities during his stay in jail.

When produced before the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court of Cuttack Sadar on the day after the end of his three-day police remand, Mishra moved the two petitions.

While hearing on both the petitions completed on the day, the Court has reserved its verdict on them, informed Mishra’s counsel Bibekananda Mahapatra.

Stipulated norms

Mahapatra said his client urged the Court to allow him to have food of his own arrangement under the stipulated norms of the jail manual. Similarly, stating that the jail hospitals have detected a severe cardiac ailment in him, Mishra pleaded the court to allow him to undergo treatment in the local SCB Medical College and Hospital.

Arrested by the Paradeep police last month in connection with a murder case, the Cuttack city police had taken Mishra on a three-day remand to question him in custody in connection with a bomb blast case of 2013. When police did not seek any further remand, Mishra was remanded in judicial custody to Choudwar circle jail here.
