Last week, Winter Storm Jupiter buried the Northwest in snow, dumping more than foot in Portland, Oregon. As it passed through the Midwest this weekend, Jupiter turned into an ice storm that covered parts of the region with freezing rain and up to an inch of ice, leaving downed trees and power outages from as far south as the Texas panhandle to northwest Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska, according to Weather.com.
Starting on Friday, freezing rain caused ice to begin accumulating on everything from trees to power lines to cars and even basket ball hoops in some parts of the Midwest.
The ice accumulation was so thick on some trees that it caused limbs to break off, causing a great amount of property damage across the Midwest.
Heavy ice also downed power lines, like this one in Kansas that snapped in half during the storm. As a result many people lost power.
Some of the most incredible images from the storm were of cars completely covered in a thick sheet of ice.
While many decided to wait it out until warmer weather melted the ice off their cars, some people resorted to knocking off the layer of ice on their cars from the inside.
This car, unfortunately, didn't weather the storm as well.
While the storm was devastating, some truly beautiful images of ice-covered trees and plants surfaced on Instagram over the weekend.
As of Monday January 16, Winter Storm Jupiter has moved on to hit the Great Lakes region with snow and ice, and will start to impact the Northeast on Tuesday. Stay safe out there everyone!
