The world of boxing is hard inside and outside the ring. The tough daily training, the high risk of injury and the complicated business network can turn the ropes of glory into a shark tank.
In this men-dominated world, there is little space for women and even fewer chances of success. One woman who fought her way through is Sarah-Louise Halcour.
The 6'1" German blonde gained the German title of champion in super middle weight in 2014 and has since turned her sport into a business.
"Most coaches just didn't work for me. Either I was over trained or not sufficiently challenged. I constantly felt burnt out and sluggish". But instead of giving up, Halcour attacked the problem. She got accreditation as a personal trainer and studied nutrition in order to learn as much as possible about the effects of training and nutrition on an athlete's body."I want to be the master of my own fate," said SLH, as she is fondly called.
"Especially for athletes, nutrition is the base for success, but I quickly discovered that there was no product on the market that met my demands," she said.
Soon the frustration about the little variety of clean products available was too much to bear. This was the moment SLH made a decision: together with her sister Dr Katharina J Peters (KJP) an Australia-based scientist, she began to develop vegan protein shakes that contained no sugar or artificial additives. Their ultimate goal: to create the perfect product, ethically correct and plainly delicious.
After months of development and research the sisters embarked on a thrilling journey: they visited international food festivals, led countless discussions and negotiations with distributors and always came to the same conclusion: good quality is paramount. 'Made in Germany' known as a declaration for highest standards, this is what SLH and KJP aspired to achieve not only for the quality of their product, but also for its taste.
As a professional athlete SLH knows about the close connection between fitness and nutrition, but by now the group of satisfied customers includes not only athletes but international models, actors, as well as normal people who just want to feel a little bit better about themselves.
"Beauty, health and happiness are intertwined. This is the base of our philosophy and it is reflected in our products," says the tall, blonde athlete.
"Our customers can feel that. They say they have more energy, cleaner and firmer skin and just feel great."
Recently, the two sisters also publicly proved that the SuperPowerShakes can aid with weight loss: via Facebook they documented and shared the fitness and weight loss journey of a young woman, with all its highs and lows, and lots of funny moments. The result after four months: one very happy woman who lost almost 20kg and one proud athletic and nutritional coach."Our SuperPowerShakes were with her from day one; she barely had any cravings for sweets. Together with our new fitness regime, the SuperPowerShakes helped her transform."
This experiment has certainly increased the demand for the Halcoura fitness and nutritional programmes. The sisters will be promoting their products in Australia in September this year, and they are planning events in Dubai and Qatar for 2017.
For those who won't be able to make it, there's hope: the full programmes will be available online shortly.
