If the city is not cleaned properly, people will question me: Umesh Yadav
Indian cricket team’s fast bowler and Nagpur lad Umesh Yadav is as serious about his civic duties as he is about his sport. The swachhata ambassador of the city says he realises that people have a lot of expectations from his involvement with Swachh Bharat Mission of Nagpur Municipal Corporation and adds, “I will be very careful about my new role because if the city is not cleaned properly, people will question me. They will definitely ask ki yeh kya ho raha hai, kaam ache se nahin ho raha.
But I have faith that NMC will do its job well. And I will lend my support and help whenever NMC officials need me.”
Revealing his plan, Umesh says, “My goal is to inspire the city youth to come and join this cause. If people motivate one another, the city will shine soon enough and become an example for others.”
Ask him which are the dirtiest parts of Nagpur and he says in his inimitable forthright manner, “The old city areas, including the Cotton Market, Itwari, Mahal etc. are some of the most crowded places, and everyone knows they are most unclean too. When you go towards the old city, you realise that serious work needs to be done there; there’s greater need to create awareness in those parts. But if each person from one family joins this cause, I’m sure the entire city will become clean.”
