MUMBAI: The monks of
Ramakrishna Mission and Math (
RKM) celebrated
Youth Day on January 12 in honour of Swami Vivekananda's birthday. Festivities were undertaken at multiple locations, including Gateway of India, Mahim and their own headquarters in Khar.
RKM secretary Swami Muktidananda Maharaj said, "At 10.00am, municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta garlanded Swamiji's statue at the Gateway of India.
He then released a book named 'The Youth Power and The Power of Idea' written by our senior trustee Swami Bhajanandaji Maharaj, who is based in Belur Math. The foreword of the book is written by Infosys chairman N R Narayana Murthy." The BMC band performed afterwards.
Meanwhile, at Vivekananda Garden along Mahim Causeway, youth recited passages written by Swamiji. Senior civic officials were present. At 4.00pm, the spotlight shone upon the mission headquarters in Khar where the former chief justice of the Bombay high court Mohit Shah released the book. Young orators delivered speeches about Swami Vivekananda.
