US Cable Network Lifetime Confirms Michael Jackson TV Movie 'Searching For Neverland'
Cris Xander JulianoA new Michael Jackson biopic has been announced under the working title "Michael Jackson: Searching for Neverland," according to a report by NME. US cable network Lifetime will be behind the film.
The film will be based on the book "Remember the Time: Protecting Michael Jackson in His Final Days." It will star the popular Michael Jackson impersonator, Navi, in his acting debut. The book is told through the perspective of the iconic pop star's bodyguards.
According to Deadline, the film will also star Chad Coleman from "The Walking Dead," who will play the role of Bill Whitefield, Michael Jackson's bodyguard. The executive producers will be Suzzane de Passe, Robert Teitel and Madison Jones.
The cable network Lifetime, has already made other unofficial biopics of artists including Aaliyah, Whitney Houston, TLC and Toni Braxton to name a few. In addition, a movie based on Britney Spears' life is schedule to air next month, also on Lifetime.
Meanwhile, a half-hour episode from the Urban Myths series titled "Elizabeth, Michael and Marlon" has been canceled for broadcasting after being heavily criticized by Jackson's daughter, Paris. It is a comedy series recreating tales about the said celebrities, created by Sky Arts. The show would have portrayed Elizabeth Taylor, Michael Jackson and Marlon Brando.
After the trailer had been shown, Paris Jackson posted on her Twitter account saying, "honestly made me want to vomit." The said tweet has already been deleted. The show also received backlash from other viewers who launched an online petition that urges the pubiic to boycott the show due to a white actor being cast as Michael Jackson. "Searching for Neverland" is scheduled to start pre-production in February.
