NADRA have revealed that more than 16000 national CNICs are in the name of foreigners.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) on Tuesday has restarted the verification process of the Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs).

Special boards formulated by NADRA have revealed that more than 16000 national CNICs are in the name of foreigners with 11,776 of them residing in the country.

Boards have declared 2014 CNICs as legal whereas they are still examining the remaining 10,000 cases.

After the re-verification, at least 1005 cases have been sent to zonal boards.

Besides this, the process has also suspected of 67,983 intruders in the country.

The process started in May last year when Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar directed Nadra carry out verification of CNICs across the country.

The development occurred after questions were raised over a Pakistani passport and CNIC found at the site where Muhammad Wali, suspected to be Afghan Taliban supremo Mullah Akthar Mansour, was reportedly killed by a US drone strike deep inside Pakistani soil while he was travelling from Iran.
