AUBURN HILLS, Mich.—Mike and Bernie Green are back in the optical lab business, following a decade-long hiatus from the industry. The Green brothers, who previously owned and operated Great Lakes Coating, opened Green Optics, a 24,000 square foot lab, here in early 2016.

The state-of-the-art facility, which is now fully operational, is outfitted with the latest technology for digital lens processing, dip hardcoating, anti-reflective coatings and mirror coatings. It has the capacity to produce 1,500 pairs of Rx lenses and 4,000 pairs of custom lens coatings per day.

Green Optics produces Varilux and Shamir digital lens designs as well as its own FormTech family of premium lens products. Also featured is on-site production of Crizal and VistaPure AR coatings, as well as Green Optics’ exclusive SunRider Performance Mirrors.

“By breaking the industry trend of outsourcing, Green Optics is able to provide a 24- to 48-hour average turn time to our customers,” said Mike Green, president of Green Optics. “Our goal is to be easy to do business with, offering high quality products and the very best customer service, with consistently fast delivery times.

“The continued consolidation of optical laboratories has resulted in fewer choices, slower turn times, decreased quality and a corporate mentality that makes life more difficult for ECPs. Green Optics is committed to dismissing that mentality and sees an opportunity to stand apart from the rest,” he said.

Green Optics’ management team is comprised of handpicked industry veterans, with an average of 25 years’ experience. “Our talented team knows the industry inside and out and has the experience and authority to do the right thing for our customers,” said Bernie Green, executive vice president of Green Optics.

The Greens founded Great Lakes Coating Laboratory in 1994. They grew it into a successful business before selling it to SOLA in 2006. The lab is now part of the Zeiss lab network.
