TUMAKURU: The investigation into the alleged rape of a mentally unsound woman by ASI S Umesh in a moving vehicle gathered momentum on Monday. The victim was produced before the judicial magistrate on Monday to record her statement.
Umesh and the driver of the private vehicle, Eshwara, have been remanded in judicial custody.
Woman police inspector Parvathamma has been appointed the inquiry officer.
Asked about the integrity of the officer as she had allegedly delayed to register an FIR against the accused at the first instance, Superintendent of Police Isha Pant said she will directly supervise the inquiry.
Every angle including the nexus between the accused and the owner of the jeep, Jayakumar, who runs a stone quarry, would be probed, she clarified.
