People living along the bank of the River Brahmaputra formed on Monday a two-kilometre human chain at Baladmara Kheaghat under Roumari upazila in Kurigram, demanding immediate steps to stop river erosion.
Sources said several hundred houses and 25 kilometres of croplands under Kartimari, Roumari and Rajibpur upazila were washed away by the river, rendering hundreds of people homeless and landless.
The affected people alleged that the authorities concerned allegedly were yet to take any step to stop the erosion.
People from all walks of life took part in the human chain.
Among others, former lawmaker Zakir Hossain, Roumari upazila chairman Mozibar Rahman Bangabashi, president of the committee against river erosion Abdul Kader and its secretary Abu Hanif Master were present there.
They all demanded immediate action to stop river erosion in around 10 kilometres of areas from Ghugumari to Kartimari under Roumari and Rajibpur.
