SP Anupam Sharma today directed the subordinate staff to maintain strict vigil along the border between the district and areas of Punjab in view of the Assembly poll there.

Presiding over the district crime review meeting at Police Lines in Jhalera village, he said inter-state flow of contraband substances, alcohol and currency was being strictly checked.

Revealing the achievements in various heads during the last calendar year, the SP said 7.5 kg of charas, 117 kg of poppy husk, 38 gm of heroin and 1.85 kg of ganja were recovered in 44 different cases, in which 57 accused were arrested. He informed that during the same period, 154 vehicles were booked for illegal mining and a fine amounting to Rs 66.4 lakh was recovered.

He said 36,625 drivers were booked for violating traffic rules and a sum of Rs 1.2 crore was recovered from them.
