PILIBHIT: A leopard entered a house at Pandari village, under Neuria police station, here on Sunday, sending the inmates run for cover.
Blaming the forest department of negligence for not trapping the big cat, villagers said a few days ago, a leopard had killed a dog. They had reported the matter to the forest authorities but no action was taken.
According to Pyare Lal, the leopard suddenly intruded into his house at around 7 pm.
His wife and children spotted the animal and ran for their lives screaming for help. Hearing them shout, the big cat run away.
The villagers are annoyed at the forest department’s inability in finding a permanent solution to big cats’ repeated intrusion at the village. They said they feared for their school going-children who could be attacked any time .
On being asked about it, SDO of social forestry KP Singh said the department would deploy a forest team at the village to protect the residents and monitor the leopard’s movement. According to him, tranquillizing or the trapping the big cat was not a solution as it would not give any guarantee that the leopard would not infiltrate the village area again after it is released in PTR.
