INDORE: A tiger was spotted near a human settlement near Nagda, prompting forest officials to launch a rescue operation for the wildcat.
“It has been confirmed that the animal spotted by villagers is a tiger. It was also caught on our cameras. We have made all preparations to rescue it and will make sure that it does not move to populated areas,” said BS Annigiri, chief conservator of forest, Ujjain
Officials said that the tiger has been spotted in a forest area.
However, its presence in the area was not safe as it was close to human settlement.
“The animal has been spotted in compartment 1-4 of Nagda forest area. We are keeping a vigil on its movement,” said PS Champawat, DFO, Dewas.
Officials said that the tiger did not belong to the jungles of Nagda. “It has come from a nearby forest. Once it is caught we will have it sent to Satpura wildlife sanctuary,” Annigiri said.
Meanwhile, residents of the area are living in fear with rumours emerging from nearby areas.
On Sunday, some people reported that a wild animal was spotted in Dewas jungle. However, nothing was found in the area. “We checked that area. We have not found the presence of a tiger or any dangerous wild animal,” Champawat said.

The forest department has urged the villagers to keep calm and take precaution. They have also advised residents to stay away from the hills where the animal was spotted.
Reports of presence of wild animals being spotted have started cropping up for the last two weeks. Some goats and a cow were also attacked.
Citing the type of attacks and claims of villagers, the forest department installed cameras in various parts of the jungle. “Our priority is that no person or animal living in the area should get harmed,” Annigiri said.
