Three-day cultural extravaganza concludes on a musical note
Moodbidri: It was a musical night at Smt Vanajakshi K Shripathi Bhat Vedike as Bollywood singers Shaan and Payal Dev sang several hit numbers and entertained the audience on Sunday. The occasion was the ‘Sangeetha Rasasanje’ on the final day of Alva’s Virasat 2017, the three-day mega cultural fest organised by Alva’s Education Foundation at Vivekananda Nagar, Puthige.
27-year-old Payal Dev known for her hit songs in Kaabil, Bajirao Mastani, Grand Masti, Great Grand Masti, etc.
had the audience initially grooving to Chitiyan Kalaiyan. She shifted vocal gears to go into the high voltage Bulleya from Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Thanking the crowd, Payal said, “I gain my strength from your presence and encouragement.”
Initially it was the more mellifluos Mahi Ve Mohabbatan Sachiyan Ne from Wajah Tum Ho for Payal till the time she hit the straps. Settling for maestro A R Rahman’s foot tapping Hama Hama from Bombay, she shifted to Sara Zamana Haseeno Ka Diwana from Kaabil to pave the way for entry of Shaan.
Greeting the audience instantaneously with Tulu salutations Matheregla Yenna Namaskara, Yencha Ullar Moodbidridakkulu (My salutations to all, How are you Moodbidrians?), Shaan who entered with the signature tune of Don, said to the audience that he indeed is the ‘Don’ of singing saying ‘Main Hoon Shan’. Sensing the mood of the audience, he shifted to Eno Vanthara from Hudugaata and followed it up with Kudi Notave Mana Mohaka.
Engaging all the sections of the vast crowd, Shaan lauded the disciplined enthusiasm of the audience. He also did not fail to introduce his music crew on the various instruments as he sang along, while at the same time giving tributes to the musical and cultural acumen of Dr M Mohan Alva, chairman, Alva’s Education Foundation, organisers of the event and his host for the day for the event.
A love ballad from John Lennon was followed by a tribute to George Michael with a spot on rendition of Faith that endeared Shaan to the crowd all the more. With the evening warmth picking up, Shaan discarded his trademark jacket only to hear the vows of the audience go up marvelling his physique. Students of Alva’s Education Institutions lip-synced with the singer as he belted hit numbers from genres new and old, much to the delight of all.
Earlier, giving the final day proceedings a dignified start was conferring of Alva’s Varna Virasat award on Reva Shankar Sharma of Rajasthan. Born in 1935, he belongs to famous Pichhwai artists’ household of Nathdwara. The award carries a purse of Rs 25,000, a citation and bowl of fruits. The three-day event came to a close with students of the institutions presenting Nrithya Sambhrama that included bharatanatyam, Manipuri stick dance among others.
