DEHRADUN: In a speech full of theatrics in Rishikesh on Monday, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi came down hard on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of being a believer in the “one-man show” concept and claiming that this year one may get to see Lord Rama wearing the Modi mask during Ramlila. Gandhi asserted that by intruding upon the autonomy of RBI and replacing Mahatma Gandhi’s photos on the Khadi calendar with his own, the PM had proved that he had an autocratic style of functioning.

Barely six minutes into the speech, Gandhi took off his brown jacket, saying the strong response from party members has given him energy and new strength. “Modi wants to be everywhere and do everything. This year, don’t be surprised if there is an order that across the country, Lord Rama will have to wear the Modi mask during Ramlila.”
In his address to the booth-level party members of Uttarakhand, the Congress vice president pointed out that the RBI had been created to work independently without pressure from any political party or individual. “But unfortunately the autonomy of institutions like the RBI is in danger from the present government. Just a day before demonetisation, a letter was shot off to the RBI governor apprising him of the decision by Modi to scrap the Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes,” said the Congress leader.
Gandhi took a dig at the PM, saying, “There is a big difference in what Modi says and what he does.”
Showing the crowd his kurta pocket, which was torn, Gandhi said, “Modi talks about the poor but never meets them. His clothes are perfect and one cannot find even a hole in his pocket.”
Gandhi claimed that Modi was not able to implement the projects started by the UPA government. “Ex-servicemen are still protesting for proper implementation of One Rank One Pension scheme. If Modi can scrap Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 crore notes in a minute, similarly he can solve the issue of OROP in a minute,” he added.

“The charkha, which represents the common man and is a reflection of the hard work of the people, and a Rs 15 lakh suit cannot go together. Similarly, talking about the welfare of poor and then working only for top 50 industrialists and posing with rich people don’t go together,” added Gandhi.
He was surprised that the PM projected himself as brand ambassador of Yoga but could not even properly do padmasana. Gandhi further stated, “The yoga experts in the 10 lines behind Modi do yoga perfectly, but the PM is unable to do padmasana. If he practices it, he would be able to do the aasana in three to four months.”
