Flanker Thomas Young insists his focus remains on Wasps ahead of a possible debut Wales call-up.

The 24-year-old has been tipped to be included in Rob Howley's Six Nations squad, which is named Tuesday, after starring for his club this season.

Young, the son of Wasps director of rugby and former Wales captain Dai, was reportedly courted by England last year but was already tied to Wales, having featured for their under-20 side.

Young said: "It's the ultimate to represent your country, but I still can't take my focus off Wasps.

"International rugby is something every player wants to play in and wants to achieve, but with squad we have at Wasps, if you look elsewhere or take your eye off the game, that could cause a slip-up.

"I have to make sure I'm in the 23 and perform every game, but everyone wants to play internationally. That's why you play rugby: to reach the highest level."

Young was on standby for Wales' tour of New Zealand in the summer, but a hamstring injury ruled him out of the end of the Premiership campaign.

He also underwent shoulder surgery during pre-season, but he believes the break has allowed him to maintain his form, with five tries in 17 games helping Wasps to the top of the Aviva Premiership.

Young added: "I got injured the last game of the season and it was a long summer of rehab. I ended up having shoulder surgery as well as repairing a hamstring tendon tear, so it was a double-whammy.

"Things happen for a reason, so it gave my body a bit of a rest."
