After relinquishing captaincy, MS Dhoni took the field for the first time against England during the first One-Day International (ODI) in Pune. MSD was playing purely as a wicket-keeper batsman, and that was hard to believe for some fans. Even at one point of time, it looked like Dhoni forgot that he was no longer leading the side.

The incident took place in 27th over, when England captain Eoin Morgan edged one to the keeper. Dhoni who took the catch looked convinced that the English captain had edged it. However, the on-field umpire thought the other way.

Dhoni straightaway indicated towards the umpire that India will opt for DRS (Decision review System). However, from the fielding team, only captain is nominated to inform the umpire on DRS. And it seemed that Dhoni had forgotten that he was not in charge of the side. India’s new captain Virat Kohli eventually stepped in and formally opted for DRS. Also Read- Virat Kohli now holds the record for most hundreds in successful chases, goes past Sachin Tendulkar

Interestingly, Dhoni was spot on with his decision, and Morgan was adjudged caught behind after it was clear that he had edged it. Thanks to Kohli and Kedar Jadhav’s centuries India went on to win the first ODI by chasing down mammoth 351. The duo added a 200-run stand for the fifth wicket after India lost four wickets for just 63 runs.
