J&K: 3 terrorists gunned down in encounter in Pahalgam

After a fierce gun-battle between security forces and militants since Sunday night, three terrorists have been gunned down in Pahalgam area of Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu, Jan 16: Three terrorists have been gunned down by the security forces in Pahalgam area of Jammu and Kashmir early this morning. Three AK-47 rifles have been recovered from the militants. Heavy shelling was reported from the spot. Locals of the area informed that at arround 11 pm, loud bangs started to reverberate. On Sunday evening, after a fierce encounter between security forces and militants, at least three local Hizbul Mujahideen militants were trapped inside a residential house in Awoora village of Pahalgam.

Awoora village, which is surrounded by dense forest is located in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. As per reports, district commander of Hizbul is one among those trapped. Following information about the presence of the militants in the area, the Awoora village in Pahalgam was cordoned off by the security forces. The Joint forces from Army’s 3 RR and SOG laid siege around the building in Awoora village where militants were suspected to be hiding.

Reports state that as security forces were laying cordon terrorists hiding in the village fired at security forces, which led to the gunfight. Reports stated that youth in Bijbehar resorted to stone pelting at the security forces while people took staged mass protests to help the militants escape from the cordon.

Earlier this month, one terrorist was killed in an encounter with  security forces in Parray Mohalla Hajin area of Bandipore district in Jammu and Kashmir. On January 6, an Al-Badr terrorist was gunned down by security forces in an encounter. The fierce gun-battle took place with the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Budgam. The slain terrorist has been identified as Muzzafar Ahmed.
