Ferrari Shows Interest To Add Mick Schumacher In Its Driver Academy
Ferrari Formula 1 team admits that it is showing interest to add Mick Schumacher in FDA.
According to some reports, Mick Schumacher, son of Formula 1 legend and seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher will join Ferrari Driver Academy as its boss identified him as a potential target for the academy's development programme.
Mick is stepping up from Formula 4 to Formula 3 Championship with Prema this season. Last year, he finished as the runner-up in the German and the Italian Formula 4 series.
Apart from Scuderia Ferrari, Mercedes team is also reportedly considering him for its junior programme. Ferrari Driver Academy (FDA) has said that it would approach Schumacher Jr. if he displays his talent and skill against current academy drivers and new F3 team-mate Guanyu Zhou.
Massimo Rivola, the FDA manager, told Gazzetta Dello Sport, "Obviously we follow him and this year we can do it up close because he is racing alongside Zhou at Prema. However, in this case, it is that Mick who will have to choose. If he comes to the Ferrari Academy, he will find a red carpet."
Among many FDA drivers, only Sergio Perez and the late Jules Bianchi managed to find a seat in Formula 1. Lance Stroll was also formerly part of the academy but left before achieving his 2016 European F3 title win and for 2017, he will race for Williams.
