Virat Kohli‘s first innings after being appointed as full-time captain was a special one. He not only guided India to an improbable chase but broke one of Sachin Tendulkar’s records as well. Kohli, who scored his 27th One-Day International (ODI) century, registered his 17th hundred in a chase. It was his 15th century in successful chases, the most by any batsman and Tendulkar previously held this record.

Chasing 351, Kohli along with Kedar Jadhav stitched a 200-run partnership for the fifth wicket to bring India back in the contest. The duo joined hands when India’s score read 63 for four with Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni all back in the hutch.

The captain was well supported by Jadhav, who smashed his second ODI century. It was the local boy Jadhav who started counter attacking England bowlers and was successful in it. Jadhav who scored a century off 65 balls registered fourth fastest ton by Indian batsmen in ODIs. The Maharashtra cricketer ended with 76-ball 120 and was later adjudged as man of the match.

Kohli also equalled Tendulkar’s other record. His is now levelled with Indian batting great on ‘most hundreds in run chases’ list. Both have 17 hundreds in chases while Tendulkar achieved the feat in 232 innings Kohli is faster than him and took only 96 innings to reach the milestone.
