ISLAMABAD: A new rain spell is likely to hit the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad from Sunday, including KP, Gilgit Baltistan and adjoining areas while good rains forecast in Balochistan and Sindh starts from the weekend. An official of the Met office said that the second spell of January is expected to be quite good especially for Balochistan. “Another active westerly wave is likely to enter in the country through Balochistan on Friday under the influence of this weather system”, he said. He added that rain with snowfall over the hills is expected at a number of places in Balochistan from Friday while later it would enter the Punjab and upper areas of the country till Sunday. The official of the Met office said Rain and thunderstorm are also expected at isolated places in Sindh during the weekend. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA, rain and thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills are expected at scattered places in KP, FATA from Saturday to Wednesday. He informed that in Punjab and the federal capital, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir, rain and thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills are expected at scattered places in upper Punjab from Sunday to Wednesday and at isolated places in southern Punjab. The official said day temperatures are likely to fall in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad during the rainy spell while it would rise afterwards. Fog is also likely to subside at a few places due to rain, he further informed adding that a shower in Balochistan and Sindh would have a good impact on crops. The official of the Met office said Rain and thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills are expected at a number of places in Balochistan, and at isolated places in KP, FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, Sindh and Punjab. The official of the Met office said in the last 24 hours the weather remained very cold and dry in most parts of the country. Foggy conditions prevailed over a few plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh during night and morning hours. Lowest temperatures recorded on Friday remained Skardu -13C, Astore -12C, Kalam -11C, Gupis -10C, Malamjabba -08C, Bagrote, Kalat, Dir -07C, Gilgit, Rawalakot -06C, Parachinar, Hunza -05C, Quetta, Drosh -04C, Chitral, Murree -03C, Islamabad -01C, Muzaffarabad, Peshawar 01C, Faisalabad, Lahore 02C, Multan 05C, Hyderabad 09C and Karachi 11C.
