Murder accused held after 2 years

The city police solved a two-year-old murder mystery with the arrest of Doon resident Rajeev Singh from Chandigarh today. He had brutally murdered his wife, daughter, son and mother in-law, the police said.

SSP Sweety Agarwal said Rajeev Singh, after murdering his family members, had filed a missing complaint at Patelnagar police station on March 20, 2015. He had claimed that his wife Geetika (35), daughter Ishika (10), son Aaru (2) and mother-in-law Mithlesh (61) were missing under mysterious circumstance since January 24, 2015.

Rajeev had told the police that they had committed suicide at Har-ki-Pauri, Haridwar, but their bodies couldn’t be traced. Later, the police found a suicide note of Rajeev at his residence, who was missing under mysterious circumstance since March 21, 2015. The police put Rajeev’s cell phone under surveillance, but could not get any clue.

According to the SSP, several police teams were sent to Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh to search for Rajeev.

The police recently got information that Rajeev had used his voter identity card for availing of a car loan and had also opened a bank account using it in Chandigarh. A police team conducted a raid and arrested him. During interrogation, he admitted to having killed his wife, daughter, son and mother in-law in different places, said Sweety Agarwal. A family feud is said to be the reason behind the crimes.

He smashed his wife’s head with a hockey stick and dumped her body into a gorge along the Mussoorie road in December 2014. Later, he pushed his daughter and son into a canal in Mangalore and his mother-in-law into a canal in Roorkee.
