Hoshiarpur, January 15

Former Congress MLA Chaudhary Ram Lubhaya was cremated with state honours here today. The pyre was lit by his daughter, Namita Chaudhary.

Ram Lubhaya is survived by wife and former Union Minister Santosh Chaudhary and four daughters.

Rajya Sabha MP Shamsher Singh Dullo, BJP national vice-president and former MP Avinash Rai Khanna, former MP Varinder Singh Bajwa and ex-minister Joginder Singh Mann were among those who attended the cremation.

Phagwara: Chaudhary alleged that her husband was in shock as the Congress had ignored his family during ticket allocation.

“Deeply shocked, my husband suffered a cardiac arrest as the party high command denied my daughter and me the ticket from the Sham Chaurasi Assembly seat,” said Santosh today.

She said her husband went into solitude when the LS ticket was denied to her by the party high command during the last elections. But the ticket denial now came as a second shock to him as assurances had been given in this regard by the party, she said. Ram Lubhaya suffered a massive heart attack on Thursday.
