Hurling round-up: Cork hit Limerick for seven, Clare bosses off to winning start and Kilkenny break new ground

Even though the Munster Senior League is a pre-season warm-up tournament, the new Limerick hurling boss John Kielty now knows the size of the task he faces in the coming months.

In a free-scoring encounter, the home side hit a decent 1-18 but hemorrhaged so many goals at the other end that they lost by a whopping 22 points.

The new Clare management team under joint bosses Donal Moloney and Gerry O’Connor began their season with a routine win over Kerry in Tralee.

In the Walsh Cup, history was made at the GAA’s new National Training Centre in Abbottstown in Dublin when the venue hosted its very ever competitive inter county fixture.

Kilkenny marked the occasion by fielding a strong team against Antrim and hitting an eye-watching 6-27 to run out 26 point winners.

Helped by four points from Dennis Murphy, Carlow led Davy Fitzgerald’s Wexford by a point (0-10; 0-9) at the break. But the visitors powered on in the second half to maintain their one hundred percent record in the competition.

Meanwhile, Offaly needed a last gasp goal from Oisin Kelly to secure a draw against IT Carlow in the tournament.
