A few months ago, Times Now Editor-in-Chief, Arnab Goswami left the channel to start his own venture, Republic. Barkha Dutt has also hinted over 'exploring new opportunities and work on her own ventures.'
Senior Journalist Barkha Dutt announced stepping down from her position of a consulting editor at NDTV after 21 long years. The 45-year-old who has been the face of media channel in India’s decision to separate from NDTV took everyone by surprise. This is second such announcement by a prominent journalist to leave a media channel after forming a long-term association. A few months ago, Times Now Editor-in-Chief, Arnab Goswami left the channel to start his own venture, Republic. Barkha Dutt has also hinted over setting up a new project. A favourite of trolls on Twitter, Barkha Dutt’s resignation evoked massive reactions on the micro-blogging site. While we understand of NDTV, Barkha Dutt being the trending topics, we totally are baffled at why Arnab Goswami’s upcoming news channel, Republic became a hot trend. Republic will be launched on 26 January 2017 as India celebrates its 68th Republic Day.
Barkha Dutt decision to quit NDTV after being in association with the news channel for over two decades left many shocked. The Padma Shri recipient hosted the popular weekly, award-winning talk-show We The People as well as the daily prime-time show The Buck Stops Here. She is widely famous for being an outspoken journalist who never fears to call a spade, a spade. In a series of tweets, the popular media person notified every one of her decision to part ways from NDTV. After hosting her last episode of We the People, which she said was the longest running TV show. Barkha proudly stated that she had built the show from scratch won awards and being very proud of it.
But the strong-willed Barkha Dutt faced trolls on Twitter even on her last day with NDTV. The Twitterati took potshots at her idea to “explore some new opportunities, and work on her own ventures.” On Barkha’s decision of ending her long stint with the channel, the Twitterverse is buzzing with possibilities of her starting a new channel to counter Arnab Goswami’s Republic. In 1995, Barkha Dutt joined NDTV straight out of college, and now, after 21 wonderful years together, Barkha has requested that she would like to explore some new opportunities, pursue other interests and work on her own ventures.
