KOLKATA: Mohun Bagan's Sony Norde feels that the reason for the Kolkata club's success over the last two seasons is because the players are like a family. The green and maroons won the I-League title in 2014-15 season before lifting the Federation Cup last season. "When the players joined the team before the Federation Cup in December 2014, we were friends. But, over the past two seasons, we have become a family.
All the players have very good relation with each other both on and off the field and that surely helps," said Sony after a physical training session at the Mohun Bagan club ground on Saturday morning.
On Saturday, Sony trained with the players who had not featured in Mohun Bagan's 2-0 win over Shillong Lajong FC in their second I-League match on Friday. The Haitian, who arrived in Kolkata earlier this week for his third season with Mohun Bagan, also said that he is ready to play in Mohun Bagan's next I-League match against debutants Minerva Punjab FC at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium on Tuesday.
"If the coach wants me, I am ready to play," he said.
With the addition of players like striker Darryl Duffy and defender Anas Edathodika, Sony is of the opinion that Mohun Bagan have a very balanced squad this time and is confident that they will do well in all tournaments. He is also happy that Mohun Bagan will be playing their home matches this season on the natural-grass pitch at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium. "The ground is good," he said.
