Speaker V. Vaithilingam and former Chief Minister N. Rangasamy have extended greetings to the people on the occasion of Pongal. In a message, he said Pongal highlighted the rich Tamil cultural tradition coinciding with agricultural labour, besides patronising livestock. The failure of the monsoon had left farmers in the Union Territory distraught, he said, adding that all should resolve to ensure that jallikattu was held.

Former Chief Minister N. Rangasamy said that Pongal marked an important occasion in the lives and culture of Tamil people. The festival also marked the dawn of good thoughts and joy with promotion of virtues and high thoughts.

Member of Parliament R. Radhakrishnan and Government whip R.K.R. Anantharaman also extended their greetings.
