Aker Solutions cuts more jobs

Oslo-based Aker Solutions, hit hard by the slowdown in the oil and offshore industry, has announced a need to cut as many as 650 more jobs, 270 of them in Norway. Employees were informed of the looming cuts this week following a lack of new orders.

Aker confirmed to newspaper Dagens Næringsliv (DN) that the cuts will be made in Norway, the UK and India. Around 170 jobs will disappear from Aker’s subsea services operation in Ågotnes and around 100 more at the company’s construction yard in Egersund on Norway’s southwest coast.

The latest round of job cuts results from an ongoing need to reduce work capacity in line with another downturn in new business coming into the company. Aker Solutions still has around 15,000 employees worldwide, even after major staff reductions made since oil prices collapsed in 2014.
