Nepotism case: Paul Antony seeks Chief Secretary’s views

The Chief Secretary had sent the letter to Industries Minister A C Moideen for his consideration.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Additional Chief Secretary (Industries and Commerce) Paul Antony has written a letter to Chief Secretary S M Vijayanand seeking clarification on whether he should continue in the post or not, in the wake of the Vigilance’s decision to name him as the third accused in the FIR in the nepotism case involving former industries minister E P Jayarajan.

In the letter handed over to Vijayanand, Antony said it was not ethical to hold the post after being named an accused in the case. But he said he came to know about the inclusion of his name in the FIR through media only and is yet to get a copy of it.

The Chief Secretary had sent the letter to Industries Minister A C Moideen for his consideration. The Minister said he had full faith in Antony. The minister, however, said he had not received any letter from the official.

Jayarajan had to step down from the post last year after the appointment of his nephew Sudhir Nambiar as managing director of KSIE became a controversy. Paul Antony, who had a non-controversial career till he became Additional Chief Secretary, had noted in the file that nod from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was needed for appointing Sudhir Nambiar.
