Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas starts; VP Suriname says India can be 'Vishwa Guru'

The beginning of the three day convention aims to provide platform to overseas Indian community to engage with the government and people in India.

BENGALURU: Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) started in Bengaluru on Saturday morning marking the beginning of the three day convention that aims to provide platform to overseas Indian community to engage with the government and people in India.

Speaking at the inaugural session, vice-president of Suriname Michael Ashwin Adhin said India has the potential to be 'Vishwa Guru' or super power by leveraging its traditional strengths and achievements in modern science. Adhin, 36-year-old leader whose ancestors were from India, said Indian diaspora, especially the youth can play an important role to enable India don more influential role in geopolitics. 'A strong India is good for the world as it leads to balance of power," he added.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally inaugurate the PBD. Prime minister of Portugal Dr Antonio Costa will be the chief guest at the inaugural event.

Over 1700 NRIs from 72 countries are attending the event.
