The Uttaranchal Punjabi Mahasabha organised a mega function at Dr Hari Ram Arya Inter College on the eve of the Lohri festival here today. Giddha and Bhangra by artistes enthralled the audience, who had come to attend the event despite a cold wave sweeping the region. Chief Minister Harish Rawat said, “Lohri is the festival of prosperity, unity and brotherhood”.
District Magistrate Harbans Singh Chug greeted the people on the occasion.
Uttaranchal Punjabi Mahasabha president Jagjeet Singh Shastri said Punjabis living across the world celebrate Lohri with fervour. He urged the youth to remain in touch with their culture, traditions and folk legacy.
Social activists Jagdeesh Lal Pahwa, Parmanand Popli, Dr Sandeep Kumar, Sandeep Kumar, Bhola Sehgal, Ram Arora, Praveen Kumar, Kunwar Bali, Pradeep Kalra, Hari Om Anjeja, Surendra Sapra, Raj Kumar, Brij Mohan Khanna, Harvinder Singh Uppal, Jatin Handa, Abhishek, Rajesh Chawla, Gulshan Sharma, Shyam Arora, Mahendra Dhingra, Deepak Bhatia and Neelu Khanna were present.
