Mongrels gang members nabbed for shooting

Three gang members were arrested in Grassy Park on Wednesday (11 January) after they had allegedly shot a member of a rival gang.

According to a police report, the three men belonging to the Mongrels gang were driving a Toyota at 17:00 and shot a member of the 6 Bob gang in the head in Lake Road.

Mitchell’s Plain cluster police spokesperson Captain Lance Goliath says the injured gang member was taken to Groote Schuur Hospital while the three assailants fled the scene.

However, as they fled the scene they collided with a Volkswagen bakkie in 1st Avenue and their vehicle became trapped underneath the bakkie.

“They then ran from the accident scene and were arrested by officers of the Crime Prevention Unit and a silver 9mm Parabellum with five rounds was seized.”

Goliath  says the firearm has no serial number and further tests will be conducted on the firearm.
