Painting his impressions of rural life on canvas, artist Sirpi Jayaraman has created his work ‘My Soil’.

He says he has chosen only the ‘Indian Red’ colour to depict the characters in his artwork.

“It is my favourite colour. I do not know if it is because it has ‘India’ in its name or I like the shade of this colour. I have consciously selected only this for my work,” he said.

Solo painting show

Assist Art Research Centre had organised artist Sirpi Jayaraman’s solo painting show from January 1 to 3, 2017, at Vanna Aruvi Art Gallery on Saint Therese Street in Puducherry.

The artwork, created on 12/5 feet canvas, depicts the rustic life in villages of nature, people and folk art in a single painting.

“Everything is vanishing today, including the art. This is to remind and record our past and our rich cultural heritage. In my painting, nature takes precedence. Everything is below nature,” he says. It took him five days to complete this painting.

This one painting is priced at ₹1 crore.

“It is my first painting of this year. There has been criticism over the price of this painting. But, it is worth it,” he claims.
