Not only for reliable timekeeping, watches can help "tick" all the right boxes as long as you don a model that brings good luck.
"Wearing an auspicious watch can attract good fortune and success because it is a part of the body's positive feng shui," said astrologer Tossaporn Sritula, also known as Master Chang.
His guideline in shopping for a new watch comes under the "Central Your Lucky Timepieces" campaign, which welcomes in the Year of the Rooster. His advice, however, is not based on the Chinese animal zodiac sign but on date of birth.
"Sagittarians [Dec 16-Jan 14] should sport a sturdy world-time watch because they are the biggest adventurers and travellers among all zodiac signs," he said by way of example. "Under the fire element, they should also look for modish and colourful designs."
The strongest fire people, Aries (April 14-May 14) are considered dynamic leaders, who should wear bejewelled or limited-edition timepieces to make a statement on the wrist.
Tossaporn predicts Aries as the second-luckiest zodiac sign in 2017, whereas the luckiest will be Librans (Oct 18-Nov 16) after having passed a tough 2016.
"Libra is a sign of balance. People under this zodiac sign should seek a high-precision, mechanical watch, with an elegant design and easy-to-read dial," he said.
This year's unluckiest, Scorpios (Nov 17-Dec 15), may face losses as well as heath problems. To help better the circumstances and get them through 2017, Tossaporn recommends fine watches for this water sign.
"Often known for being reserved and quite mysterious, they also like to go into details, making them choosy in buying a watch," he said of Scorpios. "They will consider all elements, from the strap's buckle to the intricate clockwork."
Analytical and cautious, Virgos (Sept 17-Oct 17) also pay attention to the smallest details. Skeletonised models and watches with multiple complications reflect their character while pulling in positive energy for them throughout the Year of the Rooster.
At the watch department of Central and Zen department stores, the Central Your Lucky Timepieces campaign will run till Jan 31. Big spenders will be invited to an exclusive talk by Master Chang, who will compose 2017 horoscopes for all 12 zodiac signs.
