Lorry owners seek online booking of sand, e-payment options

January 12, 2017 01:21 am | Updated 01:21 am IST - CHENNAI:

Citing demonetisation, the Tamil Nadu Sand Lorry Owners Federation has approached the Madras High Court for a direction to the State Public Works Department to permit online booking of sand and to accept the sale price by way of DD/debit/credit cards.

According to the petitioner, in the aftermath of the Central government’s decision, the association’s members were finding it difficult to pay the price of sand in cash. The situation has worsened due to the severe shortage of cash, the petitioner added. On December 1, 2016, the petitioner made a representation to the PWD to introduce online booking of sand, and electronic payment. However, no action was taken. When the plea came up for hearing on Thursday, Justice Rajiv Shakdher ordered notice returnable by two weeks to the PWD Secretary.
