MYSURU: K S
Rangappa who served as a vice-chancellor for eight consecutive years — four years at Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) and the rest at
University of Mysore — was felicitated and bid
farewell on Tuesday.
His colleagues, community’s members and well-wishers attended the send-off function which was organized at Crawford Hall, the administrative headquarters of UoM. During his eight-year tenure as the vice-chancellor, Rangappa came out with many infrastructure projects in both the universities.
Speaking on the occasion, former Prime Minister H D
Deve Gowda said: “I can’t speak much about him because I’m his relative (Rangappa’s son is married to Gowda’s granddaughter).
He has come out with various developmental activities and given new shape to both the universities during his tenure as the
VC for eight years. But still, there are people who are unhappy with his works. It all depends on people how they see it. When he demitted office as vice-chancellor of KSOU, the deposit in the university was Rs 650 crore. I request him to continue his research.”
Speaking on Rangappa’s success, Gowda said: “It’s because of the support of my wife Chennamma that I became the Prime Minister. On the same lines, Rangappa has been successful because of the support of his wife
Poornima.”
Speaking on the apex court on Cauvery river water sharing, Gowda said: “When we don’t have water and are facing severe drought across the state, how can we give water? The Supreme Court has told us to release 2,000 cusecs of water. It is really unfortunate”.
The occasion also saw Gowda and C M Ibrahim, once a JD(S) leader and now a Congressman, sharing the dais.
Suttur seer Shivarathri Deshikendra Swami, Nirmalanandanatha Swami of Adichunchanagiri Mutt, S N Hegde, former UoM vice-chancellor and music composer Hamsaleka were also present.
