MANGALURU: BJP national spokesperson and New Delhi MP Meenakshi Lekhi trained guns on Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal whom his party – Aam Aadmi Party is projecting as Punjab CM. Political parties can fight to their hearts content before polls, say what they want. But post elections, it is the duty of the party in power to serve the people. Arvind Kejriwal has failed in achieving this objective. Instead his focus has always been on political opportunism, she noted.

In an exclusive chat with TOI on the sidelines of a function organized by Saraswath Education Society on Wednesday, Meenakshi said, “Most of us new generation people who joined politics did so with intent to correct the system and serve the people. Arvind Kejriwal should have shown what governance is all about by serving Delhi properly,” she said adding the former anti-corruption crusader has failed the national capital state rather very badly with his moves.
Asked if Arvind Kejriwal’s move to project himself as CM candidate of Punjab has to do with his party’s confidence that Punjab is the next best bet for AAP after Delhi, Meenakshi said Arvind Kejriwal is now shifting base to Punjab while remaining Delhi CM. “It is not correct for a CM of a state to be projected as CM of another state, for it is duty of the incumbent to take care of the interests of the state where people have given him an overwhelming mandate,” she said.
Reminding Kejriwal that 23 of his 67 MLAs in Delhi are involved in criminal cases, she said the number of criminal cases pending against those whom AAP gave ticket in Tamil Nadu and Odisha is mind boggling. This is nothing but political opportunism, she said adding this can also be seen in the fact how Delhi government has failed to make use of budgetary allocation. This is making a whole lot of difference to the quality of life that residents of Delhi live, she said.
The fall out of not making use of budgetary allocation allocated to PWD can also be seen in the air quality issues that Delhi is facing. Delhi government through its PWD has failed to clear construction and other debris dumped along its 60 feet roads and dust from such debris is adding to the particulate matter. The motivation to serve the people, the plank with which AAP came to power is clearly missing and holding on to power at any cost is Kejriwal’s motto, she said.
