Inside Hyderabad-based Syed Shahed Husain’s secret weed farm

While you're still nursing that bitch of a hangover, the weed police in Hyderabad started the year on a high note.

Months after Bengaluru's own Walter White was caught with 231 kilos of amphetamine worth Rs. 45 crore, the cops in Hyderabad yesterday busted a 33-year-old man with a thriving start-up boasting of 40 weed pots, and over 8.6 kg ganja in his house. Syed Shahed Husain, a Hyderabad-based budding cannabis farmer was initially caught trying to sell his harvest to potential customers a few days before, but it was later discovered that Hussain not only peddled ganja but also grew them in the 3-bedroom apartment in one the city's commercial hub, Manikonda.

Reportedly, his secret weed farm was pimped out with hi-tech LED lights (to substitute as sunlight), humidifiers and air-conditioners (and a table fan to maintain a naturally conducive environment inside the flat) to make it suitable for growing the plant. Because growing your own weed indoors is serious business. The cops also seized sacks of phosphorous, potassium, cocofibre pith, flora pellet, aquasol, aquadene and cay stones (used during different phases of growing the plant) during the raid on Monday.

According to the police, Hussain started cultivating ganja in his house about three months ago, thanks to his friend who lives in the US, who helped him find videos online. He would purchase weed in Visakhapatnam and sell it for almost four times the price in Hyderabad. It must have been during that time when he decided to start growing his own weed and cut out on the travel time and costs.
