Rahul Dravid celebrates his 44th birthday today. Having played in the era of legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman and Virender Sehwag, Dravid etched his name in the history books as one of the greatest batsmen of all time.
He was admired for his determination, temperament and resilience on the pitch. He was a nightmare for the bowlers even though he had a quiet personality.
India's batting lineup was a formidable one, but Dravid was the backbone of the team and was famously known as 'The Wall' for his own reasons.
Dravid made his Test debut at Lord's in 1996 and was impressive in his first outing. He made 95 in his debut innings while the other debutant Ganguly went onto score a hundred.
While consistent performances made him a permanent member in India's Test squad, it took him 15 innings to breach the three-figure mark when he struck 148 against South Africa in Johannesburg on 16 January, 1997.
