After losing two early wickets, Gujarat led by their captain Parthiv Patel and Juneja, consolidated the innings and earned the vital first innings lead on day 2 of the Ranji Trophy finals against Mumbai in Indore on Wednesday.
Captain Parthiv Patel played some scintillating shots but unfortunate to be dismissed on 90. Parthiv and Merai added 69 runs for the third wicket after Gujarat were 37 for 2. After Merai was dismissed for 45, Parthiv and Juneja joined together to add 120 runs for the fourth wicket. Parthiv Patel was out for a well-made 90.
Then Juneja and Bhatt added 28 runs for the fifth wicket. Juneja was dismissed for a fantastic 77. Then Sandhu accounted for Bhatt for 25.
Despite losing three quick wickets towards the end of day 2, Gujarat has gained an upper hand by establishing a vital first innings lead of 63 runs with 4 wickets remaining.
Mumbai bowlers had to toil hard to separate Parthiv Patel and Juneja.
At the end of the day, CJ Gandhi (17) and RB Kalaria (16) remain unbeaten and Gujarat ended the day at 291 for 6. An exciting contest on the cards for the remaining three days.
