The festival of Lohri is just around the corner, and usually, it is celebrated on January 13, 2017. Lohri festival is a mixture of great food, dance, dhol and much more to add on. The festival of Lohri is associated with worshipping the Hindu God of fire – Lord Agni. It is said that this festival is also associated with the harvest of the rabi crops as it is the best time to harvest sugarcane crops. This festival is also linked with winter solstice which means the day with the shortest day and the longest night. Lohri is the best time when the entire family is together, and there is a tradition of food being offered to the holy fire.

Lohri is celebrated best by enjoying at the bonfire, dancing to the beats of dhol and performing Giddha or Bhangra, singing traditional folklore, flying kites & enjoying the delicious dishes. Lohri festival is celebrated all across the country with great fervour. The entire Punjabi and Sikh community prepare foods like jaggery, gajak, popcorn, puffed rice and sesame seeds which are then offered to the bonfire. As they believe that fire has the power to consume everything and it is the way they can please the God and he may bless them for the next year. Soon, after Lohri, Makar Sankranti is celebrated on January 14, 2017, which marks the end of winter days and the beginning of bright sunny days starts with full swing.
