Labuan: The Special Corruption Sessions Court here has issued a warrant of arrest against a 62-year-old entertainment outlet supervisor who failed to turn up to answer a bribery charge Tuesday. Kenny Chong was nabbed by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in 2014 after allegedly being caught in the act of bribing a police officer.

The bribe was allegedly an inducement to release three women suspected of working illegally as female guest relations officers at a downtown entertainment outlet here.

The women were arrested in an integrated operation at several nightspots on the island for not having a work permit and abusing their social visit pass.

MACC released Chong on bail after remanding him to facilitate investigations but he had absconded since then.

Chong faces Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009, which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the amount of bribe received or RM10,000, whichever is higher.

The arrest warrant was issued by judge Abu Bakar Manat.
