Three die in different accidents in Kanchi

Two men, who were travelling in an autorickshaw died when their vehicle was involved in a collision with a mini lorry on East Coast Road on Monday.

CHENNAI: Two men, who were travelling in an autorickshaw died when their vehicle was involved in a collision with a mini lorry on East Coast Road on Monday.

Police said G Dilli Babu (38) and C Durairaj, both of Triplicane, were returning home around 9 pm after attending Durairaj’s family function. When they reached Kadambadi near Mahabalipuram, a mini lorry, rammed the three-wheeler. 

The mini lorry driver abandoned the vehicle and fled. Durairaj died on the spot, while Dilli Babu succumbed to injuries in Government Hospital, Kancheepuram. Police have registered a case and are investigating. 

Lorry cleaner killed
A man aged 25 died after he fell from the bike while trying to avoid hitting a stray cow on Vandavasi Road in Kancheepuram district on Monday. According to police, D Thamil Selvan of Sevillimedu in Kancheepuram district, a lorry cleaner, was returning home after work around 9 pm when the tragedy occurred. To avoid hitting a cow, he took a sharp detour and in the process lost control and fell on the road. He died on the spot.

Kancheepuram Taluk police have registered a case and are investigating. 
Trader detained for attacking tax officer A day after a commercial tax officer was stabbed in his office, the city police Tuesday detained a trader who attacked the official.

Police said the trader, Murugan (32), engaged in false construction, was recently caught by the commercial tax officer, Thangavelu, near Sriperumpudur while carrying goods. Since he had not paid tax, a spot fine of Rs 2,000 was collected from him. Murugan was yet to pay the remaining Rs 19,000 fine and he had been visiting the officer at the commercial tax office on Greams Road. On Monday also, Murugan met Thangavelu and was having an argument when he suddenly took out a small knife and stabbed him, police said.
