Chargesheet filed in Swathi murder case

Swathi, working with IT major Infosys, was hacked to death on June 24 morning at the Nungambakkam railway station.

CHENNAI: The City Police filed chargesheet in the sensational Swathi murder case about a week ago, naming as the sole accused, Ram Kumar, who died under custody in the Puzhal prison.

Reliable sources in the city police told Express that Assistant Commissioner (Nungambakkam) Devaraj filed the chargesheet in the 13th Metropolitan Magistrate court. The chargesheet is yet to be ‘numbered’ in the court.

“No other person was named in the chargesheet,” said a court source. Confession statements, reportedly given by Ram Kumar when in custody, and the photos of Swathi taken from his phone, were among evidence attached.

Swathi, working with IT major Infosys, was hacked to death on June 24 morning at the Nungambakkam railway station. The incident created shock waves across the country. Amidst much public pressure, police arrested Ram Kumar, a youth from southern Tirunelveli. On September 18, Ram Kumar, according to police, committed suicide by biting a live wire in the Puzhal Prisons.
