State Haj Committee chairman and a key leader of the Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama Kottumala T.M. Bapu Musliar, 65, died at Kozhikode on Tuesday afternoon.

Chairman of the Suprabhatam daily, Bapu Musliar was undergoing treatment at a private hospital for over a month. He was general secretary of the Samastha Islamic Education Board and president of the Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Mufathisheen.

He held many positions, including Sunni Yuvajana Sangham vice presidentship and Samastha Mushawara membership.

He hailed from Kalambady near here.

He is survived by his wife and six children.

His body was taken to the Samastha office at Idiyangara, Kozhikode, where thousands took part in a prayer.

The body was brought to Kalambadi in the evening. The funeral will take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Kalambadi Juma Masjid.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan offered his condolences on the death of Bapu Musliar.
