CPM’s soft approach towards VS draws flak

Though the state committee was scheduled for two days the meeting concluded on Tuesday itself.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two days after the central committee of the CPM issued a warning to veteran leader VS Achuthanandan for violating party discipline, the decision drew flak at the state committee meeting. A number of leaders criticised the central leadership alleging that the disciplinary action was too mild though his act amounted to grave indiscipline.

Members of the state committee expressed their displeasure in front of VS Achuthanandan, who was present at the meeting. The central committee had decided that VS would be an invitee, without voting rights, at the state committee.

Senior leaders like P Jayarajan, EP Jayarajan and Koliyakode Krishnan Nair reportedly criticised the decision. Sources said there were also opinion that even this action could’ve been avoided.

“Many members criticised the central committee  decision. Some leaders were of the opinion that the central committee should have acted tough,” source said. Meanwhile nepotism charges against senior leader EP Jayarajan didn’t come up for discussion.
Polit Buro member S Ramachandran Pillai reported the central committee decisions at the meeting while state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan presented the political report.
